God's Power To Change Your Life by Rick Warren

This book was purchase by and given to me from a friend.  I am lucky to have a friend like her.  I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and was not happy to get to the end.  I read this alone and I also read it at bedtime to my 2 yr old Daughter.  The message is powerful and the book is very easy to read.  Rick Warren is the founder of Saddleback Church in Orange County, CA.  He is often called one of "America's most influential spiritual leaders."

At times, we wish we could change certain things in our lives or the way we handle them.  We alone can not change.  God plays a huge part in that and can place change in our hearts if we ask Him.  Rick talks about the following in this book:  Choices, becoming a more loving person, peaceful living, developing patience, kindness, Who you can count on, being gentle, and my favorite ~ Self-Control.

I would recommend this book to teens, adults, new believers, and mature believers.

Bad Girls of the Bible: And What We Can Learn From Them by Liz Curtis Higgs

Absolutely LOVED this book!  It was hard to put down and I definitely intend on reading the others!  The author tells you about the lives of 10 women in the Bible: Eve, Potifar's Wife, Lot's Wife, the woman at the well, Delilah, Sapphira, Rahab, Jezebel, Michal, and the sinful woman.

Each Chapter starts out with a short fiction story related to today's life, and then tells the real story of the woman in the Bible.  At the end of each chapter, she gives you suggestions as to how to avoid experiencing that same ordeal.  It shows you that no one is perfect, even back in those times.

Wonderfully written!!!

Total Forgiveness by R.T. Kendall

This could very well possibly be the most life changing book I've ever read.  I immediately applied the knowledge I gained from the book.  And I applied it again this morning.  We have misconceptions about what forgiveness is and what Godly forgiveness is.  There is a difference. If you still hold bitterness or resentment, a grudge, point fingers, and constantly remember the pain, then you haven't completely forgiven.  You want and need to give Total Forgiveness!  The author's insight is profound!

R.T. Kendall was the pastor of Westminster Chapel in London, England for 25 years and is the author of more than 40 books.  Visit his website to learn more about him at www.rtkendallministries.com

Who Moved My Cheese? by Spencer Johnson, M.D.

I read this neat little book in one evening.  A lot of us get used to the same routine day in and day out so when something changes, we tend to panic.  This book is written and easily understandable for all ages.  It teaches you how to adapt to change at work and in your family life.  "Cheese" is simply a metaphor for what you want to have in life - whether it is a good job, a loving relationship, money, a possession, health, or spiritual piece of mind.  Change isn't always a bad thing.  It just means we need to adapt to something new.  That something could be just what we needed or even better than what we had.  The Author is also the Co-Author of The One Minute Manager

He teaches you how to recognize the signs and qualities of both happy and unhappy relationships, admit guilt, and accept responsibility, find and give forgiveness, set boundaries, love and give out of fullness, and much more.  I honestly feel that this would be a great book to young people moving into their young adult hood.  There is even a section on the qualities of a healthy, happy, and regret free relationships.  It also gives you the signs of an unhealthy relationship.  There are Bible scriptures in each section too.

Eat Move Sleep by Tom Rath

Eat Move Sleep is a great book that talks about how to improve your life by making small changes in the way your take care of yourself.  Watch what you put into your body, move around a little more, be sure to allow proper time for rest.

I don't normally read a lot of health books, but this isn't really a health book.  It shows you a new way of life where you will see and feel dramatic changes in how you feel, how you look, and your productivity.

Tom Rath is one of the most influential authors of the last decade.  He studies the role of human behavior in health, business, and economics.  He has written several international bestsellers, including the #1 New York Times bestseller How Full Is Your Bucket?  In 2012, his book StrengthsFinder 2.0 was the top-selling nonfiction book worldwide.  You can learn more about Tom Rath and see more of his books at www.tomrath.org

At the end of Eat Move Sleep, Tom gives you a 30 day challenge and breaks it down for you.  Each day he give you 3 recommendations of things to do/try.  They are small adjustments.

This is a very easy to read book that can make a big difference.

I received this book from goodreads for an honest review.

Codependent No More is a must read for anyone who knows, lives with, is close to, or knows someone else who may be close to an addict.  Whether the addiction is alcohol, drugs, sexual addiction or what, it directly affects the people who are involved in their lives.  It affects children, spouses, girlfriend/boyfriends, parents, etc.  If you allow the person's addiction to control your emotions and your life, then you are codependent.  You suffer just as much if not more than the addict with the addiction.

Melody Beattie's definition of codependency is "A codependent person is one who has let another person's behavior affect him or her, and who is obsessed with controlling that person's behavior."

A very well put and easy to understand definition of codependency.  Melody goes in to such depth to as to how it negatively affects someone's life.  When someone you love has an addiction, it's tough to not think you can change them and make them see what it is doing to them and those around them.

Melody helps the codependent realize how to break free from letting the addict's choices and behaviors affect them.  This book is a true eye opener.  You can not make someone change.  They will only change when they are ready.

One of my favorite quotes in this book is by Toby Rice Drews ~ "When you are doing what's right for you, it's ok to say it once, simply, and then refuse to discuss anything further."

I strongly recommend this book to anyone whether you know an addict or your don't.  Everyone can learn something positive out of this book!

Out of the Shadows - Understanding Sexual Addiction by Patrick Carnes Ph.D.

After going through a period in my life where I was very close to someone with a sexual addiction, I researched and obsessively sought a book to help me understand what that person was going through.  The ratings for this book were incredible.  I was angry, bitter, vengeful, bitter, hurt and any other negative emotion you can imagine.  I had a lot of hatred toward this person.  Patrick Carnes is so insightful regarding this addiction.  As Patrick say, " Sex is at the core of our identities.  And when becomes a compulsion, it can unravel our lives."  So true...  Patrick Carnes, Ph.D. is the clinical director of sexual disorders services at The Meadows in Wickenburg, Arizona.  A nationally renowned speaker and writer on addiction and recovery, he is the author of many books, most recently In The Shadows of the Net: Breaking Free of Compulsive Online Sexual Behavior.

"Out of the Shadows has become a guidebook for sufferers and counselors alike."  ~ Roda Salter, Keene Sentinel

I highly recommend this book to anyone going through sexual addiction and to anyone who lives with or in any way is involved with someone who has a sexual addiction.  There are so many different levels of addiction.  It helps you realize where addictions come from, why they started, and will point you in the direction of how they can recover is recovery is wanted.

This book allowed me to let go of my hate for this person and made me realize they are hurting inside and allowing sex to aid/hurt them even more.

Started reading this book this weekend...awesome so far.  Robert Morris really helps you to under how the words we speak can either be a blessing to us and others or they can be a curse.  This is something that I recommend for everyone!  He really digs deep into the Word and shows us TRUTH.

We  are all born with the blessing of determination, we just need to use it!

Faith, Family, Finances

Currently reading...Faith, Family, Finances by Henry Fernandez~ started 2 nights ago and so far I'm enjoying it!  Will write more later!  Ok...finished reading this on Sunday...great book!  All sections of this book were good.  My personal favorite is the Family and Finances.  Really make you see how and why the economy is hurting based on beliefs/unbeliefs of our government leaders.  They have fallen away from HIS plan and so have we.  The family section is great too.  God did not intend for divorce to take place and Henry Fernandez really hits home on that.  And....without "Faith" you can only go so far but be without HIS blessings.  You can still have blessings but they just want be as abundant as He meant for us to have.

Unleash! ~ Breaking Free From Normalcy ~ by Pastor Perry Noble www.unleashbook.com
I first read this in PDF Format b/c I was on the book launch team. I now have the actual hard copy and have to admit that I don't want to open it yet!  Silly I know but I don't want to get it dirty and I have 3 kids at home.  They can touch and mess with my PDF format all they want.   When I was picked to be on the launch team, I was sooo stoked!  I have a past and it was hard for me to accept that it was OK to have a past.  A lot of us do. In the past 2 years, I've come in contact with several people who treated me like my "past" would always be my "current."  Not true.  But by reading this book, I was able to see how to break free!  One of the subjects in the book talks about some of the things that we need to do to unleash ourselves  and allow God's blessing to come to us.  This one thing was by far the most difficult thing I had to do.  I did it!  I will admit that it was tough and there were many more things I would have preferred to do besides this.  But this particular thing was definitely something that was holding me back.  The Unleash book was amazing and it couldn't have come to me at a better time in my life.  I stayed up til the wee hours of the night reading this book.  I also work a full time job and knew I had to get up each morning.  Still, I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend anyone and everyone to read this book.  So many positive things have taken place in my life since then.  But the most important thing, is that my "change" didn't stop when I finished the book.  I am free and have totally been unleashed!

~K~
